According to Los Angeles police detectives, Singer and a group of eight youths were having a get-together at the Auckland Avenue house when Probst and a 20-year-old man tried to get in. The host wouldn't allow them to enter, so Probst walked back to the street and started yelling.

``He started yelling things about prison and (Singer) walked out to confront him. They didn't want to have anything to do with (Probst) and they didn't want him there,'' Meyer said. ``That's when the suspect produced a knife and the stabbings occurred.''

The suspected killer drove away in a white 1980s Ford Bronco or Chevrolet Blazer. Witnesses at the scene were able to identify him as the attacker, Coffey said.

Probst was sent to prison in 1993 after being convicted for a shooting, but he was recently released on parole, Coffey said.
