Cook was the book editor at the Daily News from 1984 to 1990. He also was a senior editor at Newsweek magazine and book editor at USA Today and The Detroit News. He is survived by his wife, concert violinist Judith Aller; children, Bob Cook, Katy Cook and Ceci Laiche; stepdaughters, Silja Talvi and Sonja Rosen; and five grandchildren.
