Cable TV was launched in South Korea on March 1, 1995 with initial 100,000 homes passed. The government has authorized the development of a fiber optic network that will eventually pass every household in the country. Cable operators lease space on the cable network which is installed and owned by signal providers, and each operator owns and operates its own head-end and drop facilities. Korea Telecom KT (formerly, Korea Telecom, Korean: 한국통신, NYSE: KT) is South Korea's top integrated wired/wireless telecommunication service provider. KT has been Korea's leader in the development of the information & communications business for the last 25 years  and KEPCO are the two signal providers currently operating in the country.

Larry Buffington, vice-president and general manager of Augat's Communications Division, said, "The initial shipments made to Korea via our partners represent approximately 10 percent of the potential business available to Augat over the next five to seven years.
