AUDRE signs software agreements.SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1995--AUDRE Inc. and the California Department of Transportation The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is a government agency in the U.S. state of California. Its mission is to improve mobility across the state. It manages the state highway system and is actively involved with public transportation systems in California. (CALTRANS CALTRANS California Department of Transportation ) have signed a three-year agreement covering software upgrades, support and training. The current AUDRE software was initially installed as early as 1989 at CALTRANS facilities in Oakland, San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . CALTRANS operators use the software to quickly and economically convert existing maps and engineering drawings from paper, aperture card A punch card that holds a frame of microfilm. , microfiche Pronounced "micro-feesh." AUDRE's software allows CALTRANS to import scanned "as built" plans into an application where the designs can be altered and maintained in a compressed vector format. "CALTRANS' decision to upgrade their document conversion is indicative of the important technological role AUDRE software plays in saving the investment made in engineering drawings, electrical schematics and maps over the past years," noted Thomas F. Casey, AUDRE's chief executive officer. Excalibur Joint Marketing Agreement AUDRE also announced that Excalibur Technologies Corp. has agreed to cooperate in marketing the new AUDRE VuFlex 2000 software to Excalibur resellers and customers. Excalibur Technologies develops and markets document management systems and developer toolkits for text, fingerprint and image retrieval An image retrieval system is a computer system for browsing, searching and retrieving images from a large database of digital images. Most traditional and common methods of image retrieval utilize some method of adding metadata such as captioning, keywords, or descriptions to the . Excalibur software is installed at more than 600 corporate and government sites worldwide. Marketing is supported by a worldwide network of more than 100 resellers and distributors, plus strategic alliances with major computer and independent software vendors. In July 1995, Excalibur merged with ConQuest Software Inc., a leading developer of natural language text management software tools. "VuFlex 2000 is based on proven technology," stated Casey. "Its ability to automatically recognize text on engineering drawings and maps is a perfect match for Excalibur's advanced document retrieval software." Doug Schulze, director of marketing at Excalibur, elaborated: "AUDRE's product allows Excalibur users to quickly retrieve large documents using a variety of keywords or phrases. It expands our ability to serve the Engineering Document Management and Product Data Management market segments." The advantages offered by Excalibur EFS EFS Encrypted File System (Microsoft Windows 2000) EFS Event Free Survival (survival rates in clinical trials) EFS Evangeliska Fosterlandsstiftelsen (Sweden) include automatic full-content indexing and error-tolerant "fuzzy searching" for superior retrieval speed and accuracy. AUDRE (AUtomatic Digitizing and REcognition), founded in 1983, is a designer and developer of automated conversion software for legacy documents. The company markets a line of intelligence-based software systems used to convert intelligent engineering drawings, electrical schematics, technical publications and maps to a computer-intelligent (vector or hybrid) format. Vectorization of legacy documents makes it possible to edit or update critical information while maintaining document integrity. It also reduces on-line storage and electronic transmission costs.
