AUDITION HAS HOPEFULS ALL FIRED UP CASTING CALL SEEKS TRUMP'S NEXT SEASON.

Byline: Rachel Uranga Staff Writer

BURBANK - By the time NBC NBC

Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network.
security guards called the first 12 applicants for reality show ``The Apprentice 2'' on Saturday, the line of hopefuls snaked several blocks, beyond the studio and over the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. It is the principal east-west route through Ventura County and in the southern San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. .

More than 2,000 mostly black-and-gray-suited entrepreneurs, real estate brokers and salespeople turned out for the first open casting call of billionaire Donald Trump's top-rated prime-time show.

``I don't care

if we call back zero,'' said show producer Rob LaPlante, who is seeking 16 finalists for the show's second season. ``We just want the best people.''

LaPlante, along with several other producers, moderated hundreds of group interviews throughout the day, posing such questions as: ``Is there ever a stopping point to one's work or is it just greed?''

The resulting shouting matches or detached debate were part of an opportunity of a lifetime: winning a one-year $250,000 salaried position running a Trump company.

Producers expect the crowd to be twice as large next week when real estate magnate Trump, who created the cultural catch phrase ``you're fired,'' appears at a second casting call in New York New York, state, United States

Most critical, LaPlante said, will be finding finalists with strong points of view and, of course, business acumen to compete in the show's second season.

``The worst thing somebody can do is not talk,'' LaPlante said.

Inside the studio, there was no evidence of shyness.

``People were so friendly outside, and then when we got at the table, it felt so cutthroat cut·throat

,'' said Glenn Gallo, a 32-year-old Burbank resident who had camped out since 7 p.m. the previous day and was the among the first dozen to be interviewed by LaPlante.

Few in the crowd of well-groomed contestants showed the strain: Suits remained perfectly crisp, resumes well-rehearsed.

The most striking difference between ``Apprentice'' candidates and those of other reality shows like MTV's ``The Real World'' or even ``Survivor'' is that of white-collar sensibility, said LaPlante, a casting-call veteran.

``These people aren't just bartenders, waitresses - they are extraordinarily motivated business people,'' he said. ``They are not here so much to be on television as they are to work for Donald.''

Back in line, most contenders exchanged business cards and e-mail addresses and shook hands over promised collaborations.

``There were people who argued about who's more qualified and who's not,'' said Thompson. ``It was rapid fire. I was just trying to get my points in - you have to be ready.''

The lucky few who made it past the first cut will compete in simifinals later this month before a final selection in April.
