AUDI 1992 SALES UP 20.1 PERCENT

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc. said today that its 1992 sales were up by 20.1 percent, marking its first year-to-year sales increase since 1985.
Sales increased to 14,756 units in 1992 from 12,283 Audis in 1991, the company said.
"Audi gained strong momentum in 1992 and has clearly shown that it is a franchise on the move again," said Gerd Klauss, vice president in charge of Audi of America.
"Our many new models overcame difficult market conditions," Klauss said. "With the 1992 introductions of the new 90 series, the quattro versions of the Audi 100, the high-performance S4 sports sedan, and a more powerful V8 luxury flagship, Audi offered its most attractive lineup ever at excellent values."
Audi also performed well in J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey and Customer Satisfaction Index, ranking ahead of all of its European competitors in the IQS and placing seventh among all industry competitors in the CSI, Klauss said.
In its first full year on the market, new generation Audi 100 sales increased 27 percent from 1991.
Sales of the new 90 series, introduced in August, more than doubled from the comparable August-December period in 1991, the company said.
"In 1993, Audi expects its U.S. sales to increase to 18,000 units," Klauss said.
