Among the exciting lots, with an estimate of pounds 350, is the 1824 account of Jacob Decastro's life in the circus. Decastro is the man blamed by circus historians for inventing horse-riding acts. Another volume, penned in 1933 by one of the great British music hall performers, Sir George Robey, talks about his life on the stage. This first edition, signed by the author, is valued about pounds 150. Robey, famous for his bowler hat, black coat and hooked cane, first hit the boards in 1891. EVER fancied owning a piece of art that once lined the walls of a prestigious financial institution? Well, you're in luck. Direct from the Flemings investment bank comes 149 Scottish paintings for sale at Christie's, March 7, in London. A dramatic landscape by Scottish artist John Houston, showing strong blue mountains sitting quietly under a spectacular yellow sky, is expected to fetch pounds 2,000. A lovely still life by Aberdeen-born Alberto Morocco, called Flowers in a white jug, is estimated between pounds 5,000 and pounds 8,000. Paintings from other well-known Scottish artists such as Sir James Lawton Wingate Sir James Lawton Wingate (b Kelvinhaugh, Glasgow, Scotland, 1846 - d Edinburgh, 22 April 1924) was a leading Scottish painter of the late nineteenth century.

He worked as a commercial clerk, taking drawing lessons in the early morning.
