AU COACHING SEARCH: Hoke confirms he interviewed for job




One week after Tommy Tuberville Thomas H. Tuberville, (born September 18, 1954) is an American college football coach and current head coach of the Auburn Tigers football team. He earned his 100th career win on October 6, 2007 in a 35-7 victory over Vanderbilt. ’s resignation, Auburn is still without a head football coach, but is plenty of candidates deep into its search.

“We had discussions, but I think there’s been a lot of discussions,” Hoke said, as reported on the Mobile Press-Register’s Web site Wednesday evening.

He was previously the head coach at Rice University in Houston, Texas. , has also had his name linked to Auburn search.

Graham, though, did not confirm he interviewed. A spokesman from Tulsa said the university does not comment on job speculation.

“It’s flattering to be mentioned with a program of that stature,” Graham said. “It’s a reflection on our own program and the success we’ve had. As a university, we don’t speculate on other jobs and employment opportunities.

“I’m happy where I am. I love being at Tulsa. It’s a great place. We have a lot of momentum, and we’re excited about the future.”

Hoke and Graham join a list of six suspected candidates for the Auburn job, not counting those on athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Jay Jacobs’ list that have yet to become public knowledge.

Buffalo head coach Turner Gill has not confirmed, himself, that he interviewed for the job, though it was confirmed Auburn asked for and received permission to speak with him.

Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley, Georgia assistant Rodney Garner and Miami offensive coordinator Patrick Nix have all confirmed their interviews.

Garner and Nix are Auburn alums.
