SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1997--ATX Technologies today announced it has signed an agreement with AT&T Wireless Service, Wireless Data Division to provide the wireless needs of the ATX OnGuard product.

The OnGuard product utilizes wireless communications and Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to provide personal security, vehicle tracking and directional assistance.

New OnGuard products will utilize the nationwide AT&T wireless network to communicate with the vehicle and driver pinpointing the location through the data collected from the network of GPS satellites. The information is processed through the OnGuard Response Center, a 24-hour seven day a week center staffed with emergency communication specialists trained to help by contacting law enforcement if needed, giving directions or providing other roadside assistance.

"We have been able to miniaturize the wireless communication system and embed the technology in our unit to eliminate the need for a separate car phone," Riebel added. "This is technology driven by customer demand for an economical alternative for data transfers to and from the OnGuard Response Center. The national cellular network agreement with AT&T lets us set flat rates for our basic services and that will open new markets for our products."
