ATTORNEY OFFERS FREE LEGAL AID TO USAIR FLIGHT 405
 CRASH VICTIMS AND RELATIVES
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Fort Lauderdale Attorney Eugene Steele announced today that he would provide free legal services for the victims and relatives of USAir 405 in New York. Steele has provided free services for settlement of air crash victims claims for several years beginning with the Delta Dallas crash. Steele's offer of free legal services is limited to settlements where the victims have been solicited directly by attorneys contrary to the ethical rules of the profession. Steele stated, "I'm embarrassed for my profession when there is a major crash and the victims families are chased by attorneys trying to make their fortune. It hurts the profession and destroys public confidence."
Steele has obtained millions of dollars in settlements and advised victims or their attorneys in every major U.S. crash since the Delta Dallas crash. Steele is an airline pilot, member of the Society of Air Safety Investigators, former FAA litigation attorney handling air crash cases for the government and
an aviation and aviation insurance law professor. Steele indicated, "this crash appears to be due to a loss of lift resulting in a stall either as a result of ice or pilot induced.
While it is uncertain, combining the preliminary information leads me to believe the plane lost lift. No conclusion should be reached until all the evidence is examined."
Steele said the average settlement value should be $1,000,000 per passenger without trial. I suggest that attorneys should not be paid more than 25 percent on a contingency fee basis.
