ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE FINDS NO GROUNDS FOR CRIMINAL PROSECUTION
 AGAINST SOUTHEAST TOYOTA DISTRIBUTORS
ATLANTA, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- During closing arguments on Jan. 10 in the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles hearing against Southeast Toyota Distributors, Inc. (SET), the Assistant Attorney General Phil Lehman stated that he had found no grounds for criminal prosecution against Southeast Toyota Distributors, Inc. or any of its employees.
This concluded the Attorney General's participation in the case. The Attorney General's office had been allowed to intervene at the beginning of the case to determine if there were grounds for criminal prosecution relative to the allegations of document destruction and perjury.
Judge Robert A. Collier, hearing officer for the case, had earlier dismissed a significant portion of the petitioners' case against Southeast Toyota, including charges that top SET officials had directed perjury by its employees. The judge ruled there had been no evidence presented to support that allegation. He also dismissed all but one of the remaining allegations of post consent decree violations in December. Judge Collier is expected to make his recommendations to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the next several weeks.
