ATTORNEY CHOSEN COURT COMMISSIONER.

Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer

LANCASTER - A longtime Lancaster attorney and former deputy city attorney has been elected by Superior Court judges to serve as a court commissioner.

David Bianchi, a 54-year-old Palmdale resident, will be assigned to preside over an Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

``This is really the next logical step for me. This is furthering the community service,'' Bianchi said. ``The hard part is leaving people I've worked with for 25 years. I'm looking forward to working here at this courthouse. We have what I believe to be a wonderful group of judicial officers here.''

Bianchi is with the law firm of Michelizzi, Schwabacher, Ward & Bianchi.

Bianchi is expected to be sworn in about mid-June and begin work in the family law courtroom around that time, bringing the number of Antelope Valley family law courtrooms back to two.

Taking away one of the family law courtrooms May 2 was criticized by family law attorneys. They said the local family law system is overburdened and assigning one family law courtroom to hear criminal cases would mean inordinate delays and require clients to travel to San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

The Antelope Valley Courthouse will not lose the criminal court because a judge will be assigned to a courtroom that had been sitting empty to hear criminal matters, court officials said.

``So now all 15 courtrooms that are built out will now be staffed,'' court administrator Howard Millings said.

The $109 million courthouse that opened in 2003 has room to add six more courtrooms.
