ATS unveils cardless, badgeless time and attendance system; uses Identix technology for employee biometric verification; first T&A system of its kind.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1996--Identix Inc. (ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) A relational DBMS from Sybase that runs on Windows NT/2000, Linux and a variety of Unix platforms. ASE is a comprehensive and robust data management product with a long history dating back to the late 1980s. :IDX (IDX Systems Corporation, South Burlington, VT, www.idx.com) One of the largest health care information systems companies in the country, acquired in 2006 by GE Healthcare (www.gehealthcare.com), a unit of the General Electric Company. ), a leader worldwide in live-scan systems for law enforcement and biometric verification systems, on Thursday announced that Ellington, Conn.-based Accu-Time Systems Inc. (ATS) will introduce commercially on September 29 a line of employee time and attendance terminals called Accu-Touch that use Identix technology for check-in and check-out verification and eliminates the need for timecards and badges.

The new system, to be officially unveiled September 23 at a major retail information systems exposition in Chicago, is the first of its kind, as it requires simply the entry of the assigned personal identity number (PIN), followed by the touch of the employee's forefinger forefinger /fore·fin·ger/ (-fing-ger) index finger; the second finger, counting the thumb as first.

ATS President Peter C. DiMaria, a second version, featuring a fingerprint- and PIN-encoded magstriped or matrix barcoded card, will be available during the second quarter of calendar 1997. That version eliminates the need to remember the individual PIN.

DiMaria said that either system will be several hundred dollars less expensive than the cost of competing systems where 300 or less employees are registered, and comparable in cost, but with more operational features, to competitive systems handling up to an additional 200 employees.

"With falsified timecards, as well thefts of goods and equipment by unauthorized individuals, costing U.S. retailers literally billions yearly," DiMaria said, "major-name retail chains have been seeking a foolproof T&A system for some time. We believe Accu-Time is that system and the Identix fingerprint identification technology is a key to the system's integrity."

"The combination of proven Accu-Time and Identix technologies with our equally proven People-Planner T&A application not only eliminates the `buddy-punching' phenomenon," he continued, "but automatically helps ensure that companies adhere to adhere to
