ATMI announces strategic partnership with Matheson.

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 1997--

SDS 1. (company) SDS - Scientific Data Systems.

(TM) Safe Delivery Source product line agreement for ion implant

Advanced Technology Materials Inc. (Nasdaq: ATMI ATMI American Textile Manufacturers Institute
ATMI Association for Technology in Music Instruction
ATMI Advanced Technology Materials, Inc.
ATMI Application-to-Transaction Manager Interface

), today announced a restructuring of its strategic partnership agreement with Matheson Gas Products (Matheson) regarding the manufacture and distribution of ATMI's SDS(TM) Safe Delivery Source product line.

ATMI will assume responsibility for product manufacture, while Matheson's Electronic Products Group (EPG (Electronic Program Guide) An online listing of TV or other programs. Periodically, EPGs are downloaded into set-top boxes so that viewers can preview offerings by time or category and set reminders. ) will both toll manufacture for ATMI and have rights to distribute the product to worldwide ion implant users in the semiconductor industry.

The SDS Safe Delivery Source -- developed and patented by ATMI -- is an alternative to high pressure gas cylinders. As in numerous industries, processes used to manufacture semiconductor chips use toxic gases that can be both difficult and expensive to manage. Normally, these gases are stored in high pressure cylinders. ATMI's unique in-cylinder absorbent absorbent /ab·sor·bent/ (-sor´bent)

technology virtually eliminates gas leakage from the cylinders. Gas is released when pulled out by a vacuum -- which is typical in most semiconductor processes. The SDS products offer semiconductor manufacturers extraordinarily safe gas supply and productivity advantages, compared with high pressure cylinders.

Gene Banucci, ATMI CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , said, "To date, we have introduced the SDS Safe Delivery Source only to semiconductor ion implant processes. Matheson EPG has been a terrific partner in the safe delivery source commercialization for ion implant. While setting our strategy for this product line, ATMI chose to cement our relationship with Matheson in ion implantation Ion implantation

distribution, and to develop a manufacturing infrastructure to serve alternate markets."

Don Ramlow, president of Matheson Gas Products, said, "The SDS Safe Delivery Source is a major advance in the handling of semiconductor process gases. Our partnership with ATMI is emblematic em·blem·at·ic   or em·blem·at·i·cal

ATMI, with headquarters in Danbury, is a leading provider of advanced semiconductor materials Semiconductor materials are insulators at absolute zero temperature that conduct electricity in a limited way at room temperature (see also Semiconductor). The defining property of a semiconductor material is that it can be doped with impurities that alter its electronic properties  and environmental equipment. It is also developing next-generation semiconductor devices based on its new materials technologies.

With 75 years experience, Matheson Gas Products is headquartered in Parsippany, N.J. and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Sanso Corp., the world's largest supplier of gases and equipment to the semiconductor industry.
