ATLANTA AUTO SHOW HAS LIGHTNING FAST PICKUP TRUCK, BILL ELLIOTT'S RACE CAR AND MINIVAN OF THE FUTURE

ATLANTA, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors to the Atlanta International Automobile Show today through Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Georgia World Congress Center will "order" the car of their dreams, see a luxurious futuristic minivan, inspect "Awesome" Bill Elliott's NASCAR Thunderbird and examine a high-performance car and pickup truck.
These features of the Ford and Lincoln-Mercury displays join other spotlight vehicles -- Motor Trend magazine's 1993 "Car of the Year" Ford Probe GT and the Ford Ranger, Four Wheeler magazine's "Truck of the Year."
One of America's all-time favorite cars, Ford Mustang, will show off an all-new addition to the breed -- the new 1993 Mustang Cobra, a limited-edition, high-performance car.
Ford trucks will take center stage with three new attractions:
 -- The new 1993-model F-Series "Lightning," a high-performance,
limited-edition pickup truck. (Ford F-Series is America's best-
selling vehicle, car or truck, and has been for 11 consecutive
 years.)
-- The 1993-model Ranger "Splash," the first flareside ever
introduced in the compact pickup truck segment. Ranger is
 America's fourth-best-selling truck and its seventh-best-selling
 vehicle.
-- Explorer Limited, a new luxury series added to the hot-selling
Ford Explorer compact utility vehicle lineup. Customers bought
more than 300,000 Ford Explorers in 1992, making it America's
third-best-selling truck and its fifth-best-selling vehicle.
Ford Division also will display the Contour concept vehicle, a "new wave" global sedan with a "T-Drive" engine and transmission configuration. That allowed Ford designers to reduce the size of the engine compartment, reduce overall vehicle length and increase passenger space.
A Design and Technology Center is at the heart of the Lincoln- Mercury Division's exhibit. The center provides detailed information and displays -- focusing on vehicle safety, power, handling and comfort.
In addition to viewing the full Lincoln-Mercury 1993-model line, showgoers will use an interactive computer to input their specifications for the car of their dreams. They'll walk away with a printout of their "wish list."
The Lincoln-Mercury exhibit will display the concept vehicle Mercury Nautica Villager. It has front lights that reflect like chrome when viewed with the lights off, and high-mounted "smart mirrors" which display warning lights such as turn signals and brakes within the view of the mirror.
The Nautica Villager is based on the highly popular 1993 Mercury Villager minivan, which also will be shown. It's the only minivan designed to meet all Federal Motor Vehicle safety standards for cars as well as trucks.
Co-star of the Lincoln-Mercury exhibit is another all-new product, the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII. Introduced Dec. 26, it's Lincoln-Mercury's "flagship vehicle of the future," designed to ensure the highest level of passenger comfort. The car emerged as America's best-selling luxury coupe, surpassing all rivals -- including the Lexus SC 300/SC 400 and Cadillac Eldorado -- in its first sales month.
