ATLA law students need member mentors.Were you fortunate enough to have a mentor when you were a law student? If not, do you remember the struggle to find your path as a lawyer? Wouldn't it have been easier with a mentor to provide guidance? ATLA law student members have said that having a mentor is one of the top benefits they hope to get from their association membership. ATLA staff is working hard to connect students with mentors near their schools. Currently, more than 40 students from the following law schools need mentoring: American University California Western School of Law Founded in 1924, California Western School of Law (popularly known as California Western or Cal Western) is a private, non-profit law school located in San Diego, California. Campbell University Duquesne University Law School Golden Gate University School of Law About the Law School Golden Gate University School of Law has a history of developing programs to meet the demands of law students, the community, and the legal profession. Inter American University School of Law Lincoln Law School of San Jose The school traces its roots to 1919 [1] when Dr. Benjamin Lickey and his wife Susan Lickey founded a law study program in San Francisco as a way to provide veterans and working-class students a part-time night school for law studies. Massachusetts School of Law The Massachusetts School of Law is a law school located in Andover, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1988, its design and curriculum were influenced by the medical school educational model and legal scholars. Nashville School of Law The Nashville School of Law is an independent, night law school specializing in legal education for non-traditional and part-time students. The student body includes teachers, police officers, paralegals, insurance agents, doctors, business owners, factory workers, real estate agents, and National University School of Law Nova Southeastern University School of Law Oklahoma City University Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico History The university was founded in spring of 1948 by James E. McManus, C.S.S.R., Bishop of the Diocese of Ponce, and James Davis, Bishop of the Diocese of San Juan. It was originally founded as the University of Santa Maria. • • Widener University William Mitchell School of Law To be an ATLA mentor, you must * commit to serve for one year as a mentor to one or more law students. * meet with the student(s) at least every four to six weeks. * allow the student(s) to "shadow" you at least three days during the year, possibly observing you with clients or in court. By providing guidance, encouragement, and information to a law student about the area of the law you have chosen, you will enrich at least one person's life and help to ensure that up-and-coming trial lawyers are committed to the civil justice system. All members who volunteer will receive a mentor designation in both the online and print versions of the ATLA Membership Directory.
