ATL Products, a leading supplier of automated DLTtape(TM) libraries for networked computers, Friday announced that production shipments have begun for its new P3000 Series Automated DLTtape Library and is available to prospective customers through its channel of Authorized Value-Added Resellers.

Representing another technological milestone for ATL, the P3000 is the industry's first DLT library to feature a High Availability (HA) design similar to HA servers and RAID systems. Targeted at storage intensive applications, the new library is designed to support up to 16 DLTtape drives and 326 cartridges for 288 gigabytes per hour performance and 11.4 terabytes of storage capacity.

The P3000's HA design features single connector hot-swap DLTtape drives, power supplies, and fans, as well as redundant power supplies, fans and AC sources. The hot-swap components allow for non-disruptive maintenance, while the redundant AC components allow on-line replacement and continual uptime if a single component fails. An advanced cooling system newly developed for the

P3000 provides twice the cooling capacity needed for unabated operations and also features easily swappable components.

Another key feature of the P3000's reliable design is IntelliGrip(TM), ATL's highly precise cartridge handling system whose design is maximized to ensure reliable DLTtape operation within the library environment. ATL has installed thousands of IntelliGrip systems that are rated at 2 million cycles MSBF. The finely tuned gripper system selects the DLTtape cartridge from the top and bottom which reduces cartridge pressure and increases cartridge life. Additionally, IntelliGrip utilizes precision timing and a highly controllable amount of force to insert and remove DLTtape cartridges in a manner that reduces drive stress, increases overall library reliability, and minimizes surface contact. The P3000's welded unibody frame prevents robotics misalignment from shock and vibration, and will automatically calibrate itself without the need for manual precision alignment.

Millions of PCs, workstations and servers are "future proof" because they protect the users investment by being easily upgraded for specific applications with PCI bus, network and array adapters. ATL has harnessed the power of the PCI industry with its revolutionary Prism Library Architecture(TM). The P3000, with Prism inside, incorporates a PCI expansion bus to support the phased implementation of user-installable Fibre-Channel adapters, network adapters, single-board computers, and tape array controllers.

The multi-terabyte P3000 is designed for easy installation, administration and service. It is delivered completely assembled and reduces the need for high level system administration. The local user interface is an icon-based touch-screen GUI, which allows the P3000 to be easily configured, operated and serviced. With simple point and click finger-touch operations, users can identify or query the status of drives, cartridges, bins and the load port.

Remote management of the P3000 is achieved through optional WebAdmin(TM) software using a Java-enabled browser. WebAdmin provides system administrators the freedom to access their P3000 from within an Intranet or anywhere on the World Wide Web. In a software world focused on file management, WebAdmin fills the void for remote library administration facilities such as library set-up, monitoring, event logging and event notification.

To scale beyond the 16 drives and 326 cartridge capacity, the P3000 library can be configured with up to five P3000 modules. This configuration will support up to 80 DLT7000 drives and 1,630 cartridges for a native throughput rate of 1.44 terabytes per hour and a native storage capacity of 57 terabytes.
