:ATYT ATYT ATI Technologies, Inc (stock symbol) ) (TSX:ATY) today at Mediacast 2003 in London, United Kingdom, unveiled the result of its collaboration, built around ATI's XILLEON(TM), with Oregan Networks Ltd. to provide a Set Top Box (STB) reference platform for digital broadcasting, IP television and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Home Media Networking markets.

XILLEON is an advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip suitable for a range of digital devices including STBs and digital televisions (DTVs).

The platform is designed to allow consumers to share and view digital media content from a variety of network-connected devices as part of an integrated home entertainment experience. The Oregan middleware stack complies with the emerging UPnP standard, spearheaded by Intel Corp. and adopted by leading consumer electronics and PC manufacturers. This enables fully automatic discovery and presentation of content and services on any UPnP-enabled device within a home network. Regardless of whether the content is stored on an UPnP-enabled PC, digital video recorder See DVR. , MP3 player or other consumer electronics device, the technology permits remote access, presentation and control of that content from any other UPnP enabled client within the home.

"Oregan's ready-to-market applications, running on ATI's XILLEON system-on-chip is a winning combination that delivers a comprehensive and powerful, yet low cost digital media platform focused on the converged digital video broadcast, Internet Protocol, home network markets." said David Gould, Senior Software Marketing Manager, DTV Group, Consumer Products Division, ATI Technologies Inc. "The Oregan solution, with features such as Macromedia Flash compatibility, Video-On-Demand and Personal Video Recording (PVR), takes full advantage of XILLEON's advanced capabilities offering a rich-media experience for consumers."

Mark Perry, Chief Executive Officer of Oregan Networks, said, "The digital broadcasting STB market is becoming increasingly crowded, but Oregan's middleware and applications enable this platform, based on ATI's industry leading XILLEON, to be targeted at a cross section of the market that blurs the boundaries between digital broadcast, IP service delivery and home media networking.

"The advanced software functionality enables an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to stand out from the crowd and retain higher sales margins, without incurring additional hardware costs." he added. "The web-based user interface, built on Oregan's TV Interactor browser and highly optimised Macromedia Flash (compatible) engine, allows OEMs to extend and customize their product with ease, enabling a very short time to market."

Targeted at the worldwide digital broadcast market, the reference design provides build configuration options for DVB-T See DVB.  (6, 7, and 8MHz), ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) An international digital television (DTV) standard adopted by the U.S., Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Argentina.  and QAM (J.83B) digital tuners within an STB or integrated DTV. The specification also features Ethernet or Wireless Ethernet options for provision of an interactive services backchannel

and enabling interconnectivity within a home network.

The middleware and application software from Oregan Networks allows TV tuner and PVR functions to be controlled from an HTML and Macromedia Flash user interface, whilst also offering integral support for IP multicast and VOD services delivered by leading video server solutions supporting the Real Time Streaming Protocol (multimedia, networking, protocol) Real Time Streaming Protocol - (RTSP) An application layer protocol for controlling delivery of a stream of real-time multimedia content. The hardware is built around the ATI XILLEON, which integrates into a single chip all processor, graphics, video, audio, and I/O (input and output) capabilities needed in a STB or digital TV. Included are a 300 MHz MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer.
