ATI Medical Appoints Dr. Gary M. Kirsh to its Scientific Advisory Board.

ATI Medical Inc., developer of promising treatments for localized cancer, today announced the appointment of Dr. Gary M. Kirsh to its Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Kirsh, a diplomat of the American Board of Urology, is chairman of the board for The Urology Group, a 30-physician urology practice in Cincinnati. He is director of brachytherapy for this organization, and was instrumental in bringing the expertise of prostate brachytherapy, permanent radioactive seed implants, to the group. Dr. Kirsh has been performing prostate brachytherapy since 1991, and his center has performed over 1,000 cases.

Dr. Kirsh is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati, and is frequently a speaker in national prostate brachytherapy courses, instructing other physicians in both basic and advanced techniques. A respected leader in the field, Kirsh has performed live brachytherapy telecasts.

Dr. Kirsh earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago, and completed residency training in surgery at the University of Cincinnati and in urology at Case Western Reserve University. He is past president of the Ohio Urologic Society, and is on the board of directors of the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the North Central section of the American Urological Society.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. The American Cancer Society estimates that, in 2002 in the U.S., 189,000 new cases will be diagnosed and over 30,000 men will die of the disease.

ATI Medical is a privately held company that is focused on the development and commercialization of a family of implants for the treatment of prostate cancer and other diseases.
