:ATYT ATYT ATI Technologies, Inc (stock symbol) ) (TSX:ATY) announced recently that Comtech Technology Co. Ltd, has chosen the NXT2004 VSB/QAM Receiver and the NXT6000 DVB-T See DVB.  Receiver for its latest generation of digital terrestrial tuners. Based in Taiwan, Comtech manufactures tuners, modules and converters for set-top box (STB), cable TV and RF related products

The tuner/demodulator products are intended for terrestrial and digital cable compatible TV, set-top box, and PC-DTV (personal computer-digital television) products for countries using the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) An international digital television (DTV) standard adopted by the U.S., Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Argentina.  (Advanced Television Systems Committee) and the DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting Project-T) standards.

"Based on strong customer demand, we deliver our digital terrestrial tuners to the DTV, STB, and PC-DTV markets. Quality and performance are more important than anything else," said Tony Hsieh, R&D manager at Comtech Technology Co., Ltd. "ATI's NXT6000 offers automatic transmission mode detection including number of carriers and guard interval. NXT6000 has more features such as full DVB-T and NorDig compliance as well as programmable adjacent channel and adaptive co-channel interference cancellation. We chose ATI to deliver all of these necessary features for a high performance terrestrial tuner coupled with good technical support. We're glad to offer ATI's NXT2004 and NXT6000 in our products."

"We're seeing a greater demand for DTV solutions from companies such as Comtech to meet the need for high quality and strong performance in tuner/receiver technology," said Yujing Wei, Greater China manager, marketing and business development, DTV/Consumer Products Group, ATI Technologies Inc. "ATI's NXT2004 and NXT6000 receiver technologies will enable Comtech to deliver exceptional digital terrestrial tuner solutions for their customer base."

The NXT2004 VSB/QAM (vestigial side band/quadrature amplitude modulation) Receiver is designed for a variety of applications including off-air and digital cable television receivers, set-top boxes, PCDTV and datacast applications where cost, low power and industry leading performance are a must. The NXT2004 VSB/QAM Demodulator See demodulate.
Demodulator

A device used to recover the original modulating signal from a modulated wave. A demodulator is also known as a detector.
is configurable to work in either the ATSC compliant 8 VSB mode for terrestrial broadcasting or in the ITU-J.83B/SCTE DVS-031 compliant 64 QAM or 256 QAM modes.

The NXT6000 COFDM (Coded Orthogonal FDM) See OFDM.  (code orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) — essentially identical to Coded OFDM (COFDM) — is a digital multi-carrier modulation scheme, which uses a large number of closely-spaced orthogonal sub-carriers. ) Demodulator and FEC (forward error correction A communications technique that can correct bad data on the receiving end. Before transmission, the data are processed through an algorithm that adds extra bits for error correction. If the transmitted message is received in error, the correction bits are used to repair it. ) IC is a highly integrated solution for digital terrestrial receiver applications. This single-chip receiver includes a COFDM Demodulator together with Viterbi and Reed Solomon Forward Error Correction and an integrated 10 Bit A/D converter. The NXT6000 not only supports all modes of the DVB-T standards as defined by ETS 300 744, but also meets the mandatory requirements of the NorDig Receiver Specification that defines a set of requirements for high-performance terrestrial receiver solutions.
