GASVIT(TM) is a gasification/vitrification technology installed at the Company's Low Level Mixed Waste ("LLMW LLMW Low Level Mixed Waste ") facility in Richland, WA. The final step of the start-up phase, executed by the Company on September 28, 2000, included a five-day thermal heat-up operation resulting in the production of molten glass in the GASVIT(TM) melter. The next phase is the pre-operation demonstration of the GASVIT(TM) system. Surrogate material will be systematically processed to test the system as an integrated unit. Similar to the initial start-up of ATG's SAFGLAS(TM) system, employees will operate the entire GASVIT(TM) system and process non-radioactive material during the demonstration period. Previously, it took ATG approximately 60 days to complete the pre-commercial demonstration of its SAFGLAS(TM) system, and the Company currently anticipates a similar time frame for the GASVIT(TM) system. ATG's LLMW facility consists of both thermal and non-thermal treatment processes. The Company commenced non-thermal LLMW processing in December 1999. The facility has a non-thermal capacity of 8,000 metric tons per year, and a thermal capacity thermal capacity: see heat capacity. of 1,250 metric tons per year under its present permit.
