), a leading provider of low-level radioactive and low-level mixed waste treatment services, today announced that it has been awarded a multiple-year low-level radioactive waste Noun 1. low-level radioactive waste - (medicine) radioactive waste consisting of objects that have been briefly exposed to radioactivity (as in certain medical tests)  processing contract from Flour Hanford Inc.

ATG estimates the potential total value of the contract to be approximately $3 million over the two-year base contract period and the two one-year option periods.

Flour is the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Management Integration Contractor for the Hanford Reservation near Richland, Wash. . The work will be performed at ATG's Richland, Wash., facilities.

"This contract brings the value of current DOE Hanford contracts, which includes on-going mixed waste contracts, to over $33 million. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to continue to serve the DOE complex."

The low-level waste to be processed includes paper, plastic, wood, metal, glass, asbestos and general debris resulting from the decontamination decontamination /de·con·tam·i·na·tion/ (de?kon-tam-i-na´shun) the freeing of a person or object of some contaminating substance, e.g., war gas, radioactive material, etc.

In performing the work, ATG plans to employ predominantly non-thermal techniques that will reduce the volume of the low-level wastes. ATG will package the processed materials in a manner that fully complies with the Hanford waste acceptance criteria. The processed materials will be returned to DOE for ultimate placement in disposal trenches on the Hanford Reservation.
