ATA Completes Cockpit Door Reinforcement on all Boeing 737-800 and 757-300 Aircraft.

) today announced that all of its Boeing 737-800 and 757-300 aircraft are now equipped with secondary reinforcement restraints on their cockpit doors.

These restraints, which resemble door bars, are designed to keep unauthorized people from entering the cockpit area and possibly seizing control of the aircraft.

In response to Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control  (FAA) specifications, ATA began installing the restraints on its cockpit doors to enhance security on all of its aircraft. The carrier expects to complete installation procedures on its fleet of Lockheed L1011s and Boeing 727-200s by November 1. By October 28, all aircraft used for scheduled service will be equipped with reinforced cockpit doors. ATA is currently coordinating efforts with Chicago Express Chicago Express Airlines, Inc. (IATA: C8, ICAO: WDY, and Callsign: Windy City) was a regional airline formerly based at Chicago Midway International Airport located in Chicago, Illinois. It operated regional feeder services under the name ATA Connection.  (doing business as "ATA Connection") to reinforce the doors on its entire fleet of Saab 340-B aircraft.

ATA, now in its 28th year of operation, is the nation's 10th largest passenger carrier, based on revenue passenger miles. ATA operates significant scheduled service from Chicago-Midway and Indianapolis to 32 business and vacation destinations.
