ATA's Agricultural & Food Transporters Conference Mobilizes Avian Flu Task Force.


ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Agricultural and Food Transporters Conference of the American Trucking Associations recently established an Avian Flu avian flu: see influenza.  Task Force to help prepare the trucking industry for the possibility of an influenza pandemic

The Task Force will interface with appropriate agencies and provide information to motor carriers, "especially AFTC members who are commercial transporters of food and agricultural commodities, including poultry," Hall said. "The Task Force will address this potential pandemic, or any degree of outbreak, in terms of industry preparedness, incident planning, and the development of contingency processes, industry communications and information."

Serving on the Task Force are Cliff Hicklin of Allen Family Foods Allen Family Foods is a large U.S. producer and exporter of chicken headquartered in Seaford, Delaware. Founded in 1919 by Charles C. and Nellie G Allen, as a small local Hatchery. Today Allen Family Foods is the world's 18th largest producer of chicken products, producing 10. , Seaford, DE; Tommy Windsor of Townsend's, Georgetown, DE; Bob Chituras of Foster Farms, Livingstone, CA; Ralph Michelson of Gold 'N Plump Poultry, Sauk Rapids, MN; and Scott Martin of Wenger Feeds, Rheems, PA.

The Agricultural and Food Transporters Conference is the national trade organization representing the interests of commercial transporters of agricultural commodities, food, forest products and minerals.

American Trucking Associations, the national trade association for the trucking industry, is a federation of affiliated state trucking associations, conferences and organizations that represent more than 37,000 motor carrier members from every class of motor carriers.
