out, at least as far as his golf course designs are concerned.

In Cancun for the recent opening of the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at the Moon Palace Golf Resort, Nicklaus said he designed the 7,165-yard course with the recreational golfer in mind.

``This is a good course, but it's not the toughest golf course in the world,'' Nicklaus said. ``I wanted to build a course that was simply fun to play but in a lush setting.''

The course is Nicklaus' 219th as a designer, but the first in Cancun, which continues to be one of the world's fastest-growing resort destinations.

``It's getting to the point where a lot of vacationers won't go to a spot where there aren't good courses,'' Nicklaus said. ``We're hoping to create a course that will see more golfers come to Cancun. I've been coming to Cancun for years for the same reason a lot of people come to Cancun -- the beaches, the ocean, such great weather, everything Cancun has to offer -- but golf is just starting to be added, and I'm very proud to be part of it.

``I think this golf course is a good, quality golf course - and affordable to play.''

Located on Cancun's south shore, between mangroves and the Caribbean Sea Caribbean Sea (kâr'ĭbē`ən, kərĭb`ēən), tropical sea, c.970,000 sq mi (2,512,950 sq km), arm of the Atlantic Ocean, Central America. , the Nicklaus course offers unsurpassed natural beauty. Created to harmonize with the tropical lushness of Cancun, the course is lined with native jungle jungle [Hindustani jangal=desert, forest; from Skt. jangala=wasteland, uncultivated land], densest form of tropical forest (usually second growth or later) found throughout tropical lowland regions.  vegetation vegetation /veg·e·ta·tion/ (vej?e-ta´shun) any plantlike fungoid neoplasm or growth; a luxuriant fungus-like growth of pathologic tissue. , natural wetlands and soft bunkers.

Guests at the 2,031-room Moon Palace, as well as guests staying at the hotel's five nearby sister hotels, can book golf packages as part of their all-inclusive plans. The packages include unlimited golf at the Nicklaus course and the nearby (and slightly more challenging) Golf Club at Playacar, shared cart, and all snacks and beverages.

In addition to golf packages, individual rounds ($250) also may be purchased by Palace guests and the general public.
