``She's kind of cool,'' Jovovich answered at the awards show taping Saturday in Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Meanwhile, in a nearby tent, a rabid pack of photographers - the kind that makes the throng terrorizing the Academy Awards each year seem like a crew from the Vatican - was demanding that model-actress-whatever Carmen Electra “Tara Patrick” redirects here. For the porn star, see Tera Patrick.

The MTV Movie Awards is the most unconventional of awards shows. As a result, the stars let their hair down, appearing more honest and less scripted than at other public appearances.

Along with unusual categories such as best screen smooch, best fight and dance sequence, the program offers musical performances and spoofs. ``Jackie Brown'' actor Samuel L. Jackson “Samuel Jackson” redirects here. For the senator from Indiana, see Samuel D. Jackson.

Some of the best moments took place backstage. Before Australian ex-soap opera star Natalie Imbruglia “Imbruglia” redirects here. For the Australian indie rock singer-songwriter, younger sister of Natalie, see Laura Imbruglia.

Who knew anything personal about Imbruglia beyond her much-copied pixie haircut to begin with? A gossip maven from E! Entertainment Television filled us in: One of her ex-boyfriends is David Schwimmer David Lawrence Schwimmer (born November 12, 1966) in Astoria, New York) is an Emmy-nominated American actor and director, who gained popularity when playing Dr. Ross Geller on the American sitcom Friends.  of TV's ``Friends.''

MTV viewers, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore delivered the best kiss in ``The Wedding Singer''; Neve Campbell got best female performance for ``Scream 2''; and Heather Graham, who played Rollergirl in ``Boogie Nights,'' gave the year's breakthrough performance.

Will Smith and Mike Myers each won two awards: Smith for his theme from ``Men in Black'' and for the best fight with a giant cockroach in the same film, and Myers as best villain in ``Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery'' and for his dance sequence in the same movie.

Myers and Sandler both dedicated their awards to Phil Hartman, their fellow ``Saturday Night Live'' alum who was murdered last week at his Encino home.

``Phil Hartman was one of the greatest character actors ever,'' Myers said. ``And his wife, Brynn, was a wonderful person and a wonderful mother.''

In one of the show's best bits, MTV gave its Lifetime Achievement Award to character actor Clint Howard, who starred in ``Gentle Ben'' as a youngster and went on to appear in a host of films, including many of brother Ron Howard's productions.

Martin Landau introduced Howard as ``a great artist, a great man, a true American original ... four of his films have grossed more than $1 million at the box office!''

Best comedic performance award winner Jim Carrey (for ``Liar, Liar'') predictably gave a knockout turn at the podium, pretending to be the devil while snickering, ``I'd like to thank my fans who have always supported my comedies but don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

After it was all over, before audience members and stars hoofed it to the after-show bash, Jackson told what he liked best about hosting the program.

``It's loose, everyone can be themselves,'' he said. ``It's really a lot of fun.''

We second that emotion.
