In Pasadena, an Alhambra man driving the wrong way on the Foothill Freeway early Monday morning slammed into a wall and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

It was the fourth crash in two weeks involving a driver traveling against traffic - and the second over the holiday weekend.

Los Angeles County firefighters in a fire rig Monday spotted the Toyota Camry and tried to get the driver to stop but he ignored them, said county fire dispatcher Software that determines what pending tasks should be done next and assigns the available resources to accomplish it. ``We were following him from the right lane, and we even tried to make contact with him. In fact, we did once,'' Wise said. ``But he just kept going, then he crashed his car into the center divider and it burst into flames.''

No other vehicles were involved and no other individuals were injured in the crash, Lane said.

The man, whose name was not released Monday, was driving a burgundy-colored 1988 Honda Accord and traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Foothill Freeway.

In San Marino, one person died in a two-car collision in San Marino on Sunday, a police dispatcher said.

The collision at Huntington Drive and Los Robles Robles is a common surname in the Spanish language meaning oaks, and may refer to:
  • Alfonso GarcĂa Robles (1911-1991), Mexican diplomat and politician
  • Aurora Robles (born 1980), Mexican fashion model
  • Charlie Robles (born 1943), Puerto Rican musician
Avenue was reported to authorities about 8:20 a.m., said dispatcher Lisa Skates.

The driver of a westbound vehicle was killed when the car collided with another vehicle going north on Los Robles, she said.

Two other people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the dispatcher said.

``During a holiday weekend, there is always a threat of fatalities when you have people trying to get home and also people going to picnics and drinking,'' Lane said.

Last year, there were six reported car crashes or collisions resulting in death in the Los Angeles area and 28 statewide, said CHP Officer Garry Goldenberg.
