by introducing to the region its new 9400 Series voice terminals, featuring both advanced digital technology and European aesthetics.

Developed by AT&T Bell Laboratories and designed and manufactured in Saumur, France, each of the three models in the 9400 Series brings all the call-control functions of the DEFINITY(R) Communications System In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole.  to one stylish set.

"The 9400 Series terminals are the first DEFINITY phones designed and made in Europe for Europe," said Robert Egan, vice president, AT&T Multimedia Products Group, Europe, Middle East and Africa. "AT&T answers the call for sound clarity, caller control and ease of use with the 9400 Series, and caters to the European sense of style. These terminals represent yet another example of AT&T's global capacity to address the local needs of the marketplace."

With the DEFINITY system behind the series -- models 9403, 9410 and 9434 -- customers have total control of calls at their desktop, allowing employees to work faster and more efficiently. The multiple call appearance feature, for example, displays details of an incoming call while one is engaged on the line and allows the individual to send the second call to the DEFINITY AUDIX AUDIX Audio Information Exchange (R) voice mail system or to a secretary.

Other features include one-touch access to conference, hold, mute and transfer buttons; a red message waiting light; and a "rocker-type" volume control for the speaker, handset, and ring. A function key also allows one to customize the phone to an office's acoustics acoustics (ək`stĭks) [Gr.,=the facts about hearing], the science of sound, including its production, propagation, and effects. .

The sets, with buttons in English, French or German, are available now in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Sets with buttons in Italian and Spanish also will be available next year in Italy and Spain, respectively.

All models of the 9400 Series work in buildings wired for two-wire systems, eliminating the cost of rewiring the premises. The 9403 and 9434 voice terminals work in buildings wired for four-wire communications systems as well. All sets in the 9400 Series conform to Verb 1. conform to - satisfy a condition or restriction; "Does this paper meet the requirements for the degree?"
