). There is an onscreen user guide, a feedback connection, and volume control. In addition, the PAL interface will display the day's date and time. Development is already underway for further live web access and Internet searching, to be deployed in the near future.

This is the first such pilot involving interactive public telephones ever conducted at JFK International and the first in North America. The units are being introduced as part of an initial roll out with the intention of providing users with the ability to test the system and give their feedback, so that all parties involved can collect the data and use it to improve and upgrade the product. The future goal is to collectively deliver a comprehensive system in massive quantity that reflects user feedback and satisfies what the consumer has asked for.

Robert J. Kelly, director of the aviation department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said, "We expect these telephones will greatly assist our international visitors. Technology is moving very quickly and our aim is to provide high-quality services that are able to meet the changing needs of our customers. These phones will be able to provide numerous beneficial services--and do it in a number of languages.

"After we analyze the performance of these phones, AT&T may be bringing them to other terminals at JFK or other Port Authority airports," he added.
