AT&T and Lucent Technologies will deliver the sights and sounds of the 1996 Republican National Convention.SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1996--The eyes and ears of the world will be on the 1996 Republican National Convention this summer when AT&T and Lucent Technologies provide the GOP with state-of-the-art communications. ``As the technology partners for this convention, AT&T and Lucent Technologies have the opportunity to showcase advanced global telecommunications technology to all convention participants,'' said Christine Myers, AT&T director of the 1996 Republican National Convention and leader of the AT&T-Lucent team serving the convention. The comprehensive telecommunications package for the convention consists of technology and services from AT&T, Lucent Technologies and NCR (NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH, www.ncr.com) A technology company specializing in financial terminal transactions, retail systems and data warehousing. Until the late 1990s, NCR was heavily invested in the hardware side of the industry, known worldwide as a major manufacturer of computers . During convention week, Aug. 12-15, more than 15,000 participants will have access to individually customized Lucent phones that will support simultaneous long-distance voice, data and video calls over AT&T's network. AT&T's and Lucent's technology and technicians will assist a variety of clients during the event, including television networks and hundreds of out-of-town affiliates that will use AT&T high- capacity cable (satellites provide backup) to transmit broadcast feeds back to their home studios. Exciting projects under way include the development of both an Internet service to take ``real-time'' news of the convention to both participants and the world, and an ``Intranet'' presence that will operate as a closed system and circulate cir·cu·late v. cir·cu·lat·ed, cir·cu·lat·ing, cir·cu·lates v.intr. 1. The Lucent and AT&T technicians, managers and service attendants will serve the television networks, print media, delegates and political customers. Volunteers will staff a host of AT&T, Lucent and NCR-sponsored service areas, including: -- A media filing center where the media can drop by to use a telephone, computer or fax, or access the Internet to file a story by e-mail; -- Welcome centers inside the Convention Center perimeter to provide restaurant reservations, brochures about San Diego, schedules of events and extras such as bandages and aspirin aspirin, acetyl derivative of salicylic acid (see salicylate) that is used to lower fever, relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and thin the blood.
