AT&T Wireless Services unveils new consumer programs in North America; new discount programs benefit consumers and corporations.AMSTERDAM, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1995--The Aviation Communications Division of AT&T Wireless Services, operating as Claircom International in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, announced today several new domestic consumer programs, which offer discounts on their all-digital, in-flight telecommunications system. Consumers may now register for the AT&T AirExtras(SM) program, which offers 25 percent off the three most frequently called numbers. In addition, the company will introduce a new corporate program, AirGold, offering corporate discounts for employee phone use. "Individual consumers have had the option of automatically receiving discounts while traveling, whether for business or personal use," said Randy Ottinger, vice president of marketing, Aviation Communications Division of AT&T Wireless. "Now, corporate customers also have a discounting option. Our corporate customers told us that they want their executives and traveling employees to be productive on the road at a reasonable cost. We have now responded to this customer need." AT&T believes that this new series of promotions, one of the strongest in the industry, will have immediate appeal to a wide range of customers. One of the strongest offerings centers on the introduction of new ground-to-air service. AT&T is providing special ground-to-air calling packages for top-echelon frequent fliers. "We want our customers to realize the benefits of the service and begin to rely on it," Ottinger continued. "We intend to showcase the new service by giving our best customers calling incentives in the form of discounts and even free calls. We believe that these `road warriors' will take advantage of the ability to keep up with responsibilities -- or opportunities -- back at the office or home." Discounts are available for domestic air-to-ground and ground-to-air calls on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Southwest Airlines. AT&T Wireless has five domestic and eight international airlines as customers. Domestic customers are Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines (international fleet). International customers are Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), Austrian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Lauda Air and Swissair -- eight of the leading airlines in Europe and the Middle East. AT&T Wireless provides digital in-flight calling with call-handoff, fax and data services and has just introduced ground-to-air calling in North America. AT&T provides access to its worldwide network, enabling AT&T Wireless customers to place in-flight calls using calling cards, commercial credit cards and AT&T operator assistance. The Aviation Communications Division is 90 percent owned by McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. and 10 percent owned by Cantel. McCaw is the nation's largest provider of cellular service, offering wireless voice and data communications.
