AT&T Wireless Services Second Quarter Revenue Increases 36.5 Percent; Net Mobility Subscriber Additions of 668,000; Mobility EBITDA Rises 56.1 Percent.

:AWE) said today that total revenue for AT&T Wireless Services increased 36.5 percent to $3.380 billion in the second quarter compared to the year-ago quarter.

Services revenue for the mobility business increased $883 million to total $3.123 billion in the second quarter, which represented 39.4 percent growth compared with the year-ago period. Consolidated subscriber net additions for the mobility business totaled 668,000 in the second quarter, an increase of 25.6 percent from the second quarter of 2000. Net subscriber additions in the second quarter, including partnerships and affiliates, totaled 860,000. Total consolidated subscribers were 16.4 million at the end of the second quarter, representing a 40.3 percent increase from the prior year, including subscribers associated with acquisitions that occurred subsequent to the second quarter of 2000. Total subscribers, including partnerships and affiliates, were 18.8 million at the end of the second quarter.

The AT&T Wireless mobility business had second quarter EBITDA of $858 million, an increase of 56.1 percent from the year-ago period. The increase included the results of acquisitions that occurred during 2000, as well as a continued focus on cost reductions. Given the strong subscriber growth, the increase was partially offset by higher customer acquisition, network and customer care costs. EBITDA margin was 27.5 percent of services revenue in the second quarter up from 24.5 percent in the comparable period last year. The margin improvement was driven primarily by the growth in services revenue and the reduction of incollect costs.

AT&T Wireless will launch GSM/GPRS (2.5 G network) service in markets representing approximately 40 percent of the population it serves this year and markets that cover 100 percent by the end of 2002.
