AT&T Wireless Services Expands to the Big Island of Hawaii.

: AWE) today begins offering service to customers on the Big Island of Hawaii, further expanding its coverage in the state of Hawaii. The company purchased the wireless system from U.S. Cellular U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) is a super-regional cellular telephone provider, serving 5.8 million customers in 189 markets in 26 U.S. states. The company was created in 1983 as a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. Since April 2000, John E.  in August 2000. It was just last May when AT&T Wireless Services launched service on the island of Oahu.

The AT&T Wireless Services name will be prominently displayed at the six retail locations on the Big Island. Customers will have access to AT&T's nation-wide network and rate plans like AT&T Digital One Rate, the flat-rate pricing plan that revolutionized the wireless industry. AT&T Wireless Services will also offer additional services on the Big Island such as Free2Go Prepaid Wireless and AT&T Wireless Text Messaging Sending short messages to a smartphone, pager, PDA or other handheld device. Text messaging implies sending short messages generally no more than a couple of hundred characters in length. , a two-way messaging service
