AT&T WIRELESS SERVICES RESPONDS TO THE OKLAHOMA BOMBING; NEARLY $4 MILLION IN PHONES AND AIRTIME DONATED TO SUPPORT RELIEF EFFORTS.

Over $1 million a day in donated airtime has been used by a large number of public safety organizations on the federal, state and local levels. Over 600 phones have been distributed since Wednesday and 200 additional phones are being flown in this afternoon.

Three portable cell sites have been erected to increase the capacity of the local cellular system. Two have been placed downtown and one is placed near the fairground site of the presidential visit on Sunday.

Two hundred of AT&T's local Cellular One employees have been dedicated full-time to not just getting communications into the hands of the families of victims and support organizations but volunteering to help their neighbors. McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T. Its Oklahoma City operations still operate under the Cellular One(R) name, and will continue to do so until the company has completed the process of giving its customers a choice of long distance carriers as specified by a consent decree A settlement of a lawsuit or criminal case in which a person or company agrees to take specific actions without admitting fault or guilt for the situation that led to the lawsuit.
