AT&T WINS $45 MILLION CONTRACT FROMSONY.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 1995--AT&T has won a three-year contract for voice and data communications data communications, application of telecommunications technology to the problem of transmitting data, especially to, from, or between computers. In popular usage, it is said that data communications make it possible for one computer to "talk" with another.  valued at $45 million from Sony Corporation of America Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is the United States subsidiary of Japan's Sony Corporation. Under the agreement, AT&T becomes the principal provider of long-distance services to Sony in the U.S., linking all of Sony's 300 locations across the country. The agreement expands previous contracts with Sony Electronics Sony Electronics Inc., headquartered in San Diego, Calif., is the largest component of Sony Corporation of America, the U.S. holding company for Sony's U.S.-based electronics and entertainment businesses.  Inc. for data services, and with Sony Music Entertainment Sony Music Entertainment is a major global record label controlled by the Sony Corporation. In 1988, Sony Corporation acquired CBS Records, Inc. for $2 billion. CBS Inc., now CBS Corporation, retained the rights to the CBS name, and Sony renamed the label  Inc. for voice services.

The two companies will continue exploring services that will help Sony electronics, music and motion picture businesses. Recently, AT&T and Sony announced that Sonys Magic Link(TM) personal intelligent communicator See PIC.  will work with AT&Ts PersonaLink(SM) Services messaging network.

PersonaLink is the first commercially available service to incorporate "intelligent assistants," which are mobile pieces of software that go into the network and do tasks on behalf of their owner, such as sorting electronic mail. AT&T and Sony hope to make the complementary products a major force in personal communications.
