AT&T UNIVERSAL CARD OPENS UTAH CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER

SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Universal Card Services today announced the grand opening of its customer service center here, where more than 150 associates will provide cardmembers with customer service, billing assistance and protection from lost or stolen credit cards.
The AT&T Universal Card is a three-in-one card -- a credit card with a below-industry-average variable interest rate, an automated teller machine card for cash advances and an AT&T Calling Card for long- distance calls.
Introduced in March 1990, the AT&T Universal Card program has opened nearly 12 million accounts -- making it the nation's second most popular bank card, according to industry sources. Total volume from purchases, cash advances and long-distance calling on the AT&T Universal Card has exceeded $49 billion with more than $7.6 billion in receivables.
The majority of associates and management associates at the new center were hired from the Salt Lake City area.
"We've found in Salt Lake City a bright, industrious workforce -- people who share UCS' values and our mission to provide world-class customer service," said David Hunt, president and chief executive officer, AT&T Universal Card Services. "We're proud to be a part of this diverse business community and delighted to welcome more than 150 associates to the AT&T Universal Card Services family."
"We're pleased that AT&T has strengthened its commitment to the state of Utah, a commitment that stretches back 113 years," said Gov. Michael Leavitt, who attended today's grand opening ceremony.
The newly renovated 262,000-square-foot facility is custom designed to allow associates to use leading-edge technology ensuring fast and accurate customer service for the more than 17 million AT&T Universal Card customers around the world.
The customer service center, managed by Jean Collins -- director, operates five days per week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. AT&T Universal Cardmembers can reach an AT&T Universal Card associate toll-free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year at 800-423-4343.
