AT&T TO PROVIDE VIDEOPHONE SERVICE ACROSS THE COUNTRY DURING 1993 NBA DRAFT

DETROIT, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) today announced it will provide AT&T VideoPhone services at selected locations across the country for 1993 NBA newly drafted players. VideoPhone calls will take place from the Palace at Auburn Hills, Mich., bringing players face to face with distant general managers, coaches and family members once drafted.
AT&T has placed one of its VideoPhones in Orlando, Fla., where General Manager Pat Williams will speak with the No. 1 pick. Other VideoPhones have been placed at Shawn Bradley's fiancee's home in Spokane, Wash.; a restaurant/bar in Jersey City, N.J., where Bobby Hurley's family will be watching; Portland, Ore., where Golden State Warrior Tim Hardaway will welcome Golden State's No. 3 pick to the team; and in Minneapolis, where a Minnesota Timberwolves official will speak with the No. 5 pick.
The AT&T VideoPhone 2500, which was the first in a series of AT&T video products and services, allows users to hear and see the callers in color and in motion. It is the world's first motion, full-color VideoPhone which works over existing telephone lines.
AT&T also will conduct a Long Distance Shoot-out for fans attending the Draft. The Shoot-out, which is performed in like manner to the NBA's annual 3-point shooting contest, will allow fans the opportunity to win NBA merchandise as well as the chance to shoot inside the Palace.
AT&T communications support for the Draft goes far beyond VideoPhone technology. Fans also can look forward to seeing the AT&T Event Communications Center, a fully customized 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck which serves as the command post for the 1993 NBA Draft. The fully operational office provides all the amenities of a corporate suite, including wall-to-wall carpet, furniture, an entertainment center, refrigerator, rest room and even the kitchen sink. The center has taken the concept of the traveling office to a new level. Its rooftop doubles as a hospitality center, holding 75 VIP guests comfortably, with half of the space shielded by a sun tent.
AT&T, the official telecommunications company of the NBA, sponsors more than 75 AT&T Long Distance Shoot-outs annually at Hoop-It-Up events, NBA arenas, and during NBA All-Star Weekend.
Away from the basketball court, the AT&T Foundation provides grants for education, health care, social action and cultural organizations. AT&T Long Distance Shoot-outs, as part of the Hoop-It-Up tournaments, have raised more than $20,000 for the nationally acclaimed NBA Stay-in- School program.
The NBA Draft begins at 7:30 p.m. and is being telecast on TNT.
