AT&T TO MODERNIZE NETWORK SERVICES FOR UNITED NATURAL FOODS.

:UNFI UNFI United Natural Foods Inc ), Dayville, Conn., a leading independent national distributor of natural foods and products. AT&T will provide new fiber-access services to the company to enable it to more effectively manage its business communications requirements.

Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T will provide United Natural Foods with ACCU-Ring(R) Network Access Service -- a private SONET ring The architecture used in SONET technology. SONET rings, known as "self-healing rings," use two or more transmission paths between network nodes, which are typically digital cross-connects (DCSs) or add/drop multiplexers (ADMs).  providing dedicated high speed access. The service will enable United Natural Foods to virtually eliminate data center downtime caused by access issues and enhance application performance by consolidating all voice, data and video traffic.

AT&T's ACCU-Ring architecture will protect United Natural Food's critical applications from being disrupted or degraded in quality because of loss of signal or transmission impairment because it employs a dual-fiber self-healing ring A self-healing ring, or SHR, is a common configuration in telecommunications transmission systems. By modernizing network access services from copper to fiber, United Natural Foods will be able to more effectively control costs and position itself for newer access technologies that will scale with the company as its communications needs grow.
