AT&T Secures New Five-Year Contract with Dallas County; IP Networking Solution Provides Voice and Data Management for Growing Dallas County.

 has experienced tremendous growth over the past few decades, with a population of more than 2 million.

Under the terms of the five-year contract, AT&T will provide Dallas County with a converged IP network which will improve efficiency and management of the county's voice and data traffic. The solution, which includes an optical switched Ethernet An Ethernet network that is controlled by a switch instead of a shared hub. The switch cross connects all clients, servers and network devices, giving each sending-receiving pair the full rated transmission speed.  service (OPT-E-MAN(R)), allows the county to prioritize voice and data traffic using optical transport to provide streamlined communications across locations. The converged IP network solution also aligns with AT&T's convergence strategy. As a result, the county will be positioned to easily add and support bandwidth intensive applications to serve the citizens of Dallas County. Additionally, voice service is provided through centralized ISDN-PRI ISDN-PRI Integrated Services Digital Network Primary Rate Interface .
