AT&T RESPONSE TO MCI 800 SERVICE CLAIMS

ATLANTA, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) said it is flattered that once again MCI is following it in the marketplace with the announcement of its five-minute 800 service guarantee.
However, MCI made several inaccurate statements in comparing its service with AT&T's, according to AT&T.
To set the record straight, AT&T was first to introduce service assurance, in September 1989, a full year before MCI announced its plan. AT&T was also the first to offer a 15-minute guarantee and, last month, was the first to offer a five-minute guarantee.
Moreover, AT&T was the first to include International 800 Service in its coverage.
The AT&T 800 Service Assurance Policy provides alternative service within five minutes if a customer's 800 service is disrupted. Whether an emergency involves a customer's equipment or a problem with the local or long-distance network, AT&T can either reroute calls to another AT&T 800 number designated by the customer, install temporary 800 service, or route callers to a voice announcement.
MCI's release said, "AT&T's guarantee will provide a monthly service fee credit only if a service disruption is due to an AT&T problem."
FACT: AT&T's guarantee covers ALL customers in ALL situations.
FACT: If AT&T doesn't make the five-minute guarantee, customers are credited for the monthly service fee.
FACT: In addition, AT&T's guarantee is the only one to offer its customers usage credit when the disruption is AT&T's fault.
 MCI's release said, "MCI's 800 Service guarantee is hassle-free."
FACT: AT&T's guarantee begins the minute a customer calls, regardless of where the problem resides.
