AT&T Wireless Services is the first to offer the #800 directory and other information to AT&T PocketNet service subscribers.

AT&T Wireless Services teamed with Seattle-based Toll Free Cellular late in 1995 to launch #800 Free Wireless Calling in the Seattle/Tacoma market. The offering enables businesses to pay the airtime air·time

wireless calls. Previously, wireless subscribers had to pay airtime charges on any call, even those to traditional 1-800 numbers.

Initially, the directory service available to AT&T PocketNet service subscribers only provides Seattle-area #800 numbers, which can be called free of charge by any AT&T Wireless Services subscriber placing the call within the Seattle calling area. AT&T Wireless Services and Toll Free Cellular now are discussing the expansion of service to other AT&T markets nationwide. Free Wireless Calling Directories for those markets will be added to the PocketNet #800 directory when AT&T Wireless Services chooses to introduce #800 Free Wireless Calling in those markets.

To use the #800 Free Wireless Calling directory, subscribers either search for a specific number or scroll To continuously move forward, backward or sideways through the text and images on screen or within a window. Scrolling implies continuous and smooth movement, a line, character or pixel at a time, as if the data were on a paper scroll being rolled behind the screen. "AT&T Wireless Services consistently has demonstrated its commitment to providing consumers with proven technologies that enhance the value of wireless services," said Mark Lazar, Toll Free Cellular's chief executive officer. "AT&T PocketNet service is another demonstration of that commitment. So is the fact that subscribers can now access the #800 Free Wireless Calling Directory at their fingertips "Fingertips" is a 1963 number-one hit single recorded live by "Little" Stevie Wonder for Motown's Tamla label.
