 AT&T PARADYNE DEVELOPS FIRST THREE MBPS TRANSMISSION TECHNOLOGY
 FOR COPPER TELEPHONE LINES
 LARGO, Fla., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Paradyne, which earlier this year became the first company to offer T1 transmission technology over two-wire copper local loop telephone lines, today announced a four-wire 3 Mbps very high-bit-rate digital subscriber line (VHDSL) transmission technology that can access future broadband multi-media services in the telephone network.
 The company's carrierless, amplitude/phase modulation (CAP) technology is an architectural platform for the development of high bandwidth products and related transmission applications over twisted- pair copper wire, coaxial cable and other media, without requiring line repeaters or line conditioning. CAP transceivers use programmable VLSI (very large-scale integration) circuits and, therefore, are easily adaptable to a wide range of transmission media, distances and data rates.
 The new CAP-based VHDSL applications are expected to complement the deployment of fiber and accelerate the provisioning of new services in the telephone networks.
 In addition to this new application, CAP technology provides a platform for many other high bandwidth digital subscriber line (DSL) product applications, including T1/E1 HDSL, ADSL, Fractional T1/E1 services, and 384 Kbps switched services. The performance and flexibility of CAP technology will play an important role in the growth of high bandwidth applications.

 AT&T Paradyne's Advanced Transmission Technologies business unit provides high bandwidth transmission transceiver products to worldwide telecommunications suppliers.
