AT&T OFFERS SECURITY, SAVINGS FOR CORPORATE CALLING CARD USERS

DALLAS, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The AT&T Corporate Calling Card is worth more to businesses -- and less to crooks -- than ever before. AT&T (NYSE: T) has announced an unmatched security package for Corporate Calling Cards and a program that allows card users to save up to 34 percent off AT&T's basic rates on state-to-state calling-card calls.
AT&T Card Protect(sm), a new benefit of the AT&T Corporate Calling Card, is a comprehensive package of AT&T fraud-prevention and fraud- detection capabilities. It includes a written guarantee that if their cards are lost or stolen, businesses won't pay for fraudulent calling- card calls made by people they don't know.
The guarantee is unique in the industry and applies to all businesses. Large businesses, such as those that have sophisticated private networks or purchase long-distance service in bulk, should refer to their individual contracts for specific terms and conditions.
"Savings are important to businesses, but one of their biggest concerns when it comes to choosing a calling card is protecting themselves from fraud," said Jack McMaster, AT&T product management director.
"They hear the warnings about calling-card fraud, but often don't realize there are many ways to minimize risk," he said. "At AT&T, we see helping to protect our customers against fraud as an added value we can provide."
Businesses can control unauthorized use of their AT&T Corporate Calling Cards by designating the numbers, area codes or countries that can be called, setting purchase limits and educating employees to use AT&T public phones that can automatically read card numbers.
Customers can also choose to leave the personal identification numbers (PINs) off their AT&T Corporate Calling Cards, making it even more difficult for thieves to steal AT&T's randomly selected card numbers. For businesses that want to monitor their calling card expenses and identify possible abuse, AT&T offers another option: EXECU-BILL (sm) Service.
AT&T also works behind the scenes to minimize toll fraud, which costs the industry an estimated $2 billion a year. The company's extensive fraud-control system operates around the clock to monitor calling-card volumes, patterns and individual usage.
If fraud is detected, AT&T tries to notify a customer immediately and can issue a new card number over the phone. AT&T also offers an override feature for customers who encounter public telephones that block long-distance calls due to fraud.
Card Protect complements AT&T's NetPROTECT(sm) family of services that help business customers fight toll fraud on their premises equipment.
In addition to having more security options, businesses can now save up to 34 percent on their interstate--and up to 17 percent on their international--calling-card calls and may be eligible for a free month of calls with AT&T's SelectValue(sm) Plan.
For more information on Card Protect and SelectValue, businesses can call their AT&T account executives or 1-800-448-6060.
