AT&T Introduces Two New Services That Make Nationwide Paging Reliable and More Affordable.

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1998--AT&T Wireless Services Messaging Division announced today two new services that provide customers increased reliability and flexibility in nationwide paging options.

The first, called AT&T AlphaTrack(SM) Service, helps ensure the delivery of pages by storing messages when the user is out of their coverage area and automatically delivering them when they return to full coverage. The second, called AT&T PreferredCity(SM) Service, allows people to access nationwide paging coverage at lower prices.

AT&T ALPHATRACK(SM) SERVICE

This enhanced paging service stores messages when the pager is out of its coverage area, then automatically delivers them when the customer returns to a full coverage area. For instance, if the customer is on a plane, AT&T AlphaTrack Service will store messages until the customer lands and then deliver the messages to the pager. Pages are automatically re-sent to the user's pager when they return toa full coverage area within 72 hours. And for those times when a customer can't return to a full coverage area, AT&T AlphaTrack lets the customer call in and listen to messages. This service will even correct and re-send garbled messages.

AT&T AlphaTrack also provides features such as Page Recall and Message Retransmission Retransmission might refer to:
  • Retransmission (data networks), the resending of packets which have been damaged or lost
  • Replication of a signal at a repeater
. The system stores messages up to four days (99 hours) and allows a caller to listen to those messages over the phone, or retransmit Verb 1. retransmit - transmit again

 them to their pager.

With AT&T AlphaTrack Service, customers will worry less about missing a page, because now the page will be delivered when the customer returns to a coverage area.

AT&T PREFERREDCITY(SM) SERVICE

AT&T PreferredCity Service was designed as a low-cost nationwide paging service alternative. This special type of nationwide paging service lets the customer specify where pages are sent.
