As a technology partner, AT&T ISC (1) (Internet Systems Consortium, Redwood City, CA www.isc.org) An organization founded by Paul Vixie, Carl Malamud and Rick Adams in 1994 and later sponsored by UUNET and other Internet companies.  will use NFR software in the research and development of intrusion detection technology for IP networks.

"Working with one of AT&T's leading-edge technology groups to help them investigate intrusion detection technology is a terrific showcase for the NFR platform," said Marcus J. Ranum, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of NFR. "We're very pleased to be supporting this effort."

The Network Flight Recorder software, which can be deployed in both stand-alone and distributed environments, can be modified in the field to look for new intrusion detection signatures.

platforms and the inclusion of source code, make the NFR software well suited for use in the disparate situations that AT&T ISC would like to study. The NFR system could also be used to generate network statistics and to manage different sizes and types of networks.

"NFR offers a state of the art method for analyzing the types of unique situations that are meaningful in our R&D environment," said Edward Amoroso Am`o`ro´so

"Since NFR's engine is the only openly extensible intrusion detection platform in the industry, it's the obvious choice for such a dynamic environment," noted Ranum.
