AT&T Inc. will receive the Women's Business Enterprise Award today in Washington, D.C., at a ceremony at the White House. The company is being recognized for its world-class supplier diversity Supplier Diversity is a business program that encourages the use of previously underutilized minority owned vendors as suppliers.  program, established in 1980, is considered to be a critical initiative and key component of AT&T's plan to deliver the best products and services. In the past decade, AT&T has spent nearly $7.4 billion with WBEs, representing more than 7 percent of AT&T's overall purchasing dollars.

Currently, WBEs make up 52 percent of AT&T's top 25 diversity suppliers. In 2005, AT&T spent $2.4 billion with minority, women and disabled veteran business enterprises (M/WBE-DVBEs), representing 15.1 percent of the company's procurement base.

Companies included in the America's Top Corporations list were selected based on their WBE program structures, outreach to women-owned businesses, women-owned supplier participation and spending with women-owned businesses.

WBENC is the only organization that brings together women's business enterprises and corporations committed to improving marketing opportunities for talented women-owned businesses as vendors and suppliers to the nation's top corporations.
