AT&T ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING ACTION BY THE U.S. ATTORNEY, EASTERN DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T (NYSE: T) issued the following statement today regarding action by the U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
AT&T will plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge concerning a technical violation of the Federal Clean Water Act at our Reading, Pennsylvania, facility.
We were not charged with any deliberate or knowing misconduct, nor were we accused of any environmental harm as a result of this technical violation.
After looking into the matter fully, we are confident that no environmental harm resulted and there was no danger to the health of our employees or the public.
We were charged with discharging extremely small quantities of pollutants from a small groundwater cleaning device on our own premises.
When we learned of the problem two years ago, we addressed the cause immediately and we haven't had any recurrence since then.
