"Consumers are demanding increasing levels of convenience and service and this has triggered a tremendous growth in the deployment of ATMs in off-premise locations such as convenience stores The following is a list of convenience stores organized by geographical location. "After consulting with over 200 financial institutions and retailers around the world, we developed the 5670 specifically for off-premise placements."

Designed to fit where space is a premium, such as a small bank branch or retail location, the 5670 is only 18.5 inches wide and 33.5 inches deep. Despite its small size, the 5670 gives banks and retailers the ability to offer their customers the convenience of a full range of cash and coupon dispensing dispensing

"Two messages came through loud and clear when talking with customers and prospects around the world," said Gray. "First, there was definitely a need for a small footprint cash machine targeted specifically at the off-premise market, one of the fastest growing markets worldwide. , however, was that a compact ATM had to have the same reliability, accessibility, and security already found in AT&T's fourth generation family of self-service terminals. In addition, any new ATM had to be compatible with our existing ATM applications. The 5670 meets and exceeds all these requirements." Multiple Configurations

The 5670, like the rest of AT&T's fourth generation ATMs, is available in a range of configurations designed to meet the specific needs of individual customers. The 5670 can be configured con·fig·ure

"We have always made a strong commitment to protect our customers investments and the development of the 5670 is no exception," said Gray. "The modular design In the context of systems engineering, modular design — or "modularity in design" — is an approach aiming to subdivide a system into smaller parts (modules) that can be independently created and then used in different systems to drive multiple functionalities.  of the 5670 means customers can upgrade and expand the capabilities of the machine as business needs change. For example, the capability to deploy up to four currency cassettes gives the bank or retailer the ability to extend the time between replenishments and dispense dispense /dis·pense/ (-pens´) to prepare medicines for and distribute them to their users.

In addition, the 5670 will run most existing software already available for AT&T fourth generation machines as well as applications migrated from third generation machines. New Printer

One of the unique features of the 5670 is its new full-graphics printer. This almost silent printer offers consistently high print quality and is faster than a traditional printer. Other features of the new printer include:

- improved reliability, with no ribbon required; - the ability to print fee-generating coupons as well as mini-statements;

and - variable print sizes to assist those with visual impairments Visual Impairment Definition

Reliability and Security

Because of the increased need for security in off-premise locations, the 5670 has been designed to address security issues. The 5670 weighs more than a half ton and can be bolted to the floor, addressing a concern commonly related to table top and wall mounted cash dispense units. The 5670 complies with UL291 security standards. In addition, the 5670 includes AT&T's industry-leading Self-Service System Security application layer to prevent unauthorized access to the operating system operating system (OS)

The reliability of the 5670 is enhanced through AT&T's State of Health monitoring software and optional Terminal Management software. Together, these applications provide a remote, proactive alert system designed to identify potential problems before they arise and ensure maximum system availability. AT&T's Software Management allows users to centrally distribute, maintain and modify software applications.

"Our objective is to help our customers better serve their customers and the 5670 is another example of AT&T developing a solution designed specifically for that purpose," said Gray. "The ATM is a critical component of our company's strategy because it enables our customers to collect valuable information at the point of customer contact. With the 5670, our customers can get this information when and where it's most convenient for their customers." First customer availability of the 5670 will be in March, 1995 and volume shipments will commence in June, 1995. Prices, depending on configuration, range from U.S. $12,500 to $22,500.

At AT&T Global Information Solutions, we help our customers better understand and serve their customers by more effectively getting, moving and using information.
