AT&T GLOBAL INFORMATION SOLUTIONS ANNOUNCES NEW ATM BRANDING STRATEGY; AT&T Logo To Appear On All Self-Service Products.

"The changing of the ATM brand from NCR to AT&T leverages AT&T's consumer brand awareness, including its increasing awareness in international markets," said John Gray, vice president, Financial Products and Systems Marketing, AT&T Global Information Solutions. "The branding change is a result of extensive global research and feedback from customers, prospects and employees, who expect us to better reflect who we are -- an AT&T company."

When the company first announced the name change to AT&T Global Information Solutions in January January: see month. , 1994, the decision was made to continue using the NCR brand on financial products because the NCR brand enjoyed significant equity in the industry. However, several worldwide studies conducted in 1993 and 1994 showed that both U.S. and international customers and prospects recognize the AT&T name and the strengths associated with it. Overwhelmingly, customers and prospects indicated that in the final analysis, the name on the products did not matter as much as quality and reliability.

"In all the research we ve done, AT&T is viewed as the more visible brand and is recognized for its research and development efforts," said Gray. "Overall, bankers were positive toward the acquisition of NCR by AT&T and they felt the AT&T brand is more representative of our corporate strategy. For these reasons, we decided our self-service products should carry the AT&T name."
