AT&T GIS and EMC sign OEM agreement for Symmetrix 3000 open storage systems; New AT&T GIS WorldMark Series Servers To Feature EMC's Newest Open Systems Integrated Cached Disk Array Technology.


HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1995--EMC Corporation, the world's leading independent provider of information storage and retrieval information storage and retrieval, the systematic process of collecting and cataloging data so that they can be located and displayed on request. The agreement is expected to bring $300 million in revenue to EMC (1) (EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA, www.emc.com) The leading supplier of storage products for midrange computers and mainframes. Founded in 1979 by Richard J. Egan and Roger Marino, EMC has developed advanced storage and retrieval technologies for the world's largest companies.  over the next three years.

AT&T GIS will become the first server vendor to offer EMC's Symmetrix 3000 systems on an OEM basis. This agreement includes technology sharing and advanced development to produce highly integrated customer solutions. EMC's high-performance, high-capacity and high-availability Symmetrix storage systems will be sold as the AT&T GIS 6272 and 6275 storage systems for the new WorldMark brand of enterprise server systems introduced in September.

First introduced in June 1995, the EMC Symmetrix The Symmetrix is EMC's flagship enterprise storage array. There have been seven generations of Symmetrix hardware, with the first appearing in 1994 and the latest introduced in 2006.  3000 ICDA systems extend capabilities normally associated only with mainframe storage to client/server environments. These capabilities include high performance, capacities to over one terabyte in a single cabinet, large-scale connectivity, as well as continuous availability and reliability. With one easily managed central storage resource connected to multiple server platforms, customers are able to concentrate more on providing additional services and information and spend less time managing the storage needs of multiple servers spread across their organization.

EMC's OEM business generated more than $100 million in revenues in 1994. EMC has been providing versions of its mainframe Symmetrix family of Integrated Cached Disk Arrays to computer system manufacturers since 1992.
